Everglades Summer Internship
May 17 - August 2, 2013

The Florida Everglades is a one-of-a-kind Ecosystem in need of proactive students that are interested in the environment.
Be part of the Everglades restoration solution.

 

The Arthur R. Marshall Foundation & Florida Environmental Institute, Inc., Lake Worth, is now accepting applications for a paid, career-enhancing summer internship for undergraduates and recent graduate students with top grades in their area of study. This year, students pursuing a diverse collection of degrees will be selected, including environmental science, environmental education, engineering, economics, and law.

This intensive, 11-week program focuses on the Florida Everglades and the multi-billion dollar plan to restore it. Selected students will gain an increased probability of preference for future job selection and are provided an opportunity to join a group of 43 Arthur R. Marshall summer intern graduates that are currently making significant contributions in the field.

  • Learn about the history and ecology of the Florida Everglades ecosystem through field based experiences in South Florida.
  • Contribute to the multi-billion dollar effort to save this one-of-a-kind ecosystem by working on a science-based project as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Meet and dialogue with high-ranking professionals who are engaged in
  • various aspects of Everglades restoration.
  • Stipend paid - housing not provided.
     

Application must be received by March 30, 2013

Successful applicants will be notified by April 15, 2013

Be a Part of the Everglades Restoration Solution
View the 2010 Summer Interns’ Scientific Poster: "Valuing Ecosystem Services of a Restored River of Grass"
 

In this poster, interns explain that valuing the ecosystem services associated with a restored Everglades will aid in the best environmental decision-making. The benefit-to-cost ratios they calculated indicate that six different configurations for restoration, that were developed by six different stakeholders, will all succeed in enhancing the economic value of the “river of grass” and surrounding estuary ecosystems. The interns conclude by explaining that other factors must be considered when determining the best plan, but they also recognize that no matter what plan is chosen, the benefits are clear…and the need is pressing.
