The
Arthur R. Marshall Foundation
2008 Program Summary
The Marshall Foundation provides environmental education, ecosystem restoration,
and outreach programming for undergraduate and graduate students, K-12
students, community volunteers, and public audiences.
Summer Intern Program
A comprehensive 10-week paid internship program for graduate and undergraduate
college students focusing on Everglades ecology and restoration allows
students to pro-actively explore in detail the geology, history and hydrology
of the unique Florida Everglades. Orientation includes Everglades history,
the role Art Marshall played, and how these matters relate to the Comprehensive
Everglades Restoration Plan. Students learn about the Foundation, its goals
and objectives, and visit important regions within the Everglades watershed.
Working as a multi-disciplinary team with coaching from professional mentors,
students propose several projects and select one or two that they can complete
within the remainder of their ten week course. The project(s) selected
by the interns is based on perceived need at the Foundation that the interns
believe will benefit the organization. Students meet and visit with local
and national political figures, officials at the South Florida Water Management
District, Corp of Engineers, Everglades National Park and Palm Beach County
Water Utilities Department among others.
