The Arthur R. Marshall Foundation
2008 Program Summary

Undergraduate/
Graduate programs

The Marshall Foundation provides environmental education, ecosystem restoration, and outreach programming for undergraduate and graduate students, K-12 students, community volunteers, and public audiences.

Summer Intern Program

A comprehensive 10-week paid internship program for graduate and undergraduate college students focusing on Everglades ecology and restoration allows students to pro-actively explore in detail the geology, history and hydrology of the unique Florida Everglades. Orientation includes Everglades history, the role Art Marshall played, and how these matters relate to the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan. Students learn about the Foundation, its goals and objectives, and visit important regions within the Everglades watershed. Working as a multi-disciplinary team with coaching from professional mentors, students propose several projects and select one or two that they can complete within the remainder of their ten week course. The project(s) selected by the interns is based on perceived need at the Foundation that the interns believe will benefit the organization. Students meet and visit with local and national political figures, officials at the South Florida Water Management District, Corp of Engineers, Everglades National Park and Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department among others.

Arthur R. Marshall Scholar Program

The Scholar program provides $15,000 to a student in college or graduate school who supports and promotes the Foundation s mission. The Scholar will assist Foundation education programs, restoration plantings, and deliver the message of preservation and restoration to as many people as possible through comprehensive public outreach. The Scholar is expected to reach 10,000 people, either directly or indirectly, during a one-year period.

The students will graduate from the program August 11 at a luncheon at the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties in West Palm Beach. The luncheon is open to the public. Watch this site for details, or call 561-805-8733, and come join us!
