Pine Jog Elementary Students Make Donation to the Marshall Foundation

February 9, 2010 - The 13 members of the Pine Jog Elementary School OWL Team presented Arthur R. Marshall Foundation president, Nancy Marshall, with the artwork seen here and a donation of $67.50 during the Foundation's The Everglades: Nature's Classroom educational plenary held at the school on January 7, 2010. The money was raised through the sale of hydroponic vegetables grown at the school.

OWL stands for Our World "Leeders," a reference to the school's LEED Gold Certification (the first school in Florida so designated). The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system is a third party certification and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of "green" buildings.

Students on the OWL Team include Rebecca Rodriguez (president), Whitney Chingay (vice president), Paul Atkinson (secretary), Eric Burchill, Angela Crocitto, Madison Miglio, Briana Estela, Brandon Beckman, Daniel Fox, Erika Domis, Richard Pinnock, Kyle Oliver, and Abby Meyer. The OWL Team adviser is Laurie Mecca; the principal of Pine Jog Elementary is Fred Barch.

As a thank you for their donation, the OWL Team members each received an honorary student membership in the Marshall Foundation.
