Heather Dame receives Marshall Foundation Scholarship
June 9, 2010 - Heather Dame, 20, of Eliot, Maine, a junior at Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBAU) in West Palm Beach, has been awarded the PBAU Science Club/Arthur R. Marshall Foundation Scholarship for the 2010-2011 school year.
"Heather has participated in several volunteer projects with us over the past two years," said Josette Kaufman, executive director of the Marshall Foundation. "In addition, she has worked as a biology lab assistant, been involved in the Impact Leadership Team, and traveled to the Amazon River last year in a PBAU mission trip. Last summer, Heather worked at the Boy Scout high adventure summer camp in the Florida Keys, where she led scouts through week-long camping programs while educating them about the environment."
Heather is studying biology with a concentration in marine biology in PBAU's School of Arts and Sciences. An active member of the PBAU Science Club, she has served as its vice president for two years. Currently a Presidential Ambassador at PBAU, Heather also recently received the Vaughn-Jordan Botany Scholarship for the second year in a row. She will be a volunteer on behalf of the Marshall Foundation's education team when she returns to school in August.
"I am honored to receive this scholarship, since the Marshall Foundation puts into practice a lot of what I believe about preserving the Everglades," said Heather. "The scholarship/internship will allow me to take part in the process of educating others about what is important to me, and I hope to be a valuable part of the team at the Marshall Foundation."
